Rethinking the Behavioral Health-Public Safety Interface:
SHIELD 2.0
For too long, behavioral health and public safety have been working at cross-purposes.

This has been a source of stress, burnout, and poor outcomes.

Amidst the addiction and overdose crisis, SHIELD 2.0 equips behavioral health providers to catalyze change by deploying science-based tools that improve the interface between the two sectors.
Problem
Stress & Burnout: Law enforcement officers and behavioral health workers often face high levels of stress and burnout.
Approach
SHIELD 2.0: Empowering behavioral health workers to implement SHIELD strategies locally in order to better collaborate with law enforcement and make it easier for people who use drugs to get care.
Goal
Improving Interactions: Our goal is to reduce negative encounters between police, behavioral health workers, and drug users, as well as to improve access to HIV prevention and other health services.
